I've been in a beta testing mood lately and installed Windows Vista RC1
along with several other pre-release version of popular software
including the current Beta of Microsoft Office 2007 and War-FTPd 1.82
RC11. This post is not intended to be a post to trigger development as
I have not performed enough testing to be 100% sure that War-FTPd is at
fault. I simply want to bring my experience into public light so others
may comment based on their experiences.
I realize that the issue I'm about to describe could easily be a
Windows Vista issue (or one with my hardware), but I felt that it may
be usefull to have it do***ented with War-FTPd regardless.
Firstly, the War-FTPd manager had a hard time connecting to the
service. The service was confirmed to be running and serving up
do***ents but (seemingly intermittently) the manager was uanble to
connect to it.
Once the connection was made, the 'shutdown now' button didn't seem to
work. I was forced to shut down the service manually through the
services control panel.
Although these aren't fatal issues, they are quite annoying.
The biggest problem however, is the fact that it seems that after
installing War-FTPd, Windows Vista would bluescreen after logging in
approximately 50% of the time (first login after boot) and
approximately 75% of the time when attempting to use the 'switch user'
functionality to log in as an alternate user without logging out of the
first session. Initially I thought the issue was related to the new
memory I added, but testing ruled that possibility out. (Reverting to
the old RAM did not solve the problem).
I should probably also mention that when I say I was logging in, I was
logging in with a user with Administrative priviledges and when
switching users, I was switching from my administrative user to a
regular user.
I disabled the War-FTPd service and found that the bluescreens stopped.
(I was experiencing them quite frequently over the span of 2 to 3 days
but since disabling War-FTPd, they have stopped (24 hours and
counting).

Conor Woods
