I installed WarFTPd to backup the data stored in a machine running
Windows 98, so I can reformat it and start over, without fear of data
loss.
The way I'm going through it is by running the server on the 98 laptop
(not that it should matter, but it's a To****ba Libretto 110ct), and
then using a FTP client on my other machine to get all the files out.
I configured War for the following:
"c:\Program Files\War-FTPd\root" as the root (/), with the recursive,
List, and Read attributes set.
"c:\" as "/drvRoot" with the Recursive, Free, List, Read, and Execute
attributes set.
I was able to backup the entire drive's contents, except for a few
folders. Those folders are:
"c:\CD", "c:\DOS", "c:\My Do***ents", "c:\Program Files", "c:\To****ba",
"c:\TOSUTILS", and "c:\WINDOWS".
When trying to do a file listing on those directories, my FTP client
responded with the following:
550 "/drvRoot/XXX/": Access denied
-(Where XXX is the name of the folder from the list above, without the
"c:\")
When looking at the War log file, every one of the access denied errors
corresponds to the following message:
(ProgramErr=1000) [WarDosFile::Open()] (XXX,18401) - The file appears
to be a device. We can't risk opening it, as Microsoft Windows will
freeze the server(!).
-(Where XXX is the path of the folder from the list above)
Setting individual mount points for each of the listed folders produced
the same result.
Is this a known problem? Are there any workarounds? Or is this a
legitimate bug?
